Girls’ Soccer – Team Chemistry and Bonding

By Michael Beaumont

We hope you had time to check out some of our talented soccer players speak on The High School Sports Radio Shows podcast on December 23rd, 2017. Senior captain Jackie Calhoun had the honor of speaking in the first, second, and final segments, expressing words of wisdom related to team chemistry vs. talent. She also had the privilege of being a co-winner of Student Radio Athlete of the Week. In addition, freshmen Daniela Tapia and Sarina Holding spoke during the second segment of the show alongside sophomore Emaleigh Calhoun and seniors Karoline Hrouda and Christine Carey.

Some highlights from the podcast included when Jackie Calhoun was asked about trusting your teammates; Jackie said that she “cannot be successful if the girl next to her doesn’t know the five plays we could possibly do.” This is a huge factor in sports and should be second nature to every athlete. During crunch time, Jackie Calhoun was asked what she would do in a situation where she would have to choose between feeding the ball to a teammate who has the best chance of making the shot or sticking to their coach’s plan. Calhoun’s response was “team chemistry and the plan beat talent when talent has its off days and believing in one another will work better than any one person.” This quote really resonates with any athlete because hard work will always triumph over talent when talent fails to work hard.

Our AAA Championship Girl’s soccer team kept it succinct and genuine throughout the show, allowing even non-sports fans to enjoy watching their friends and family speak about the sports they themselves love. The passion each and every one of these girls has is very evident by the answers they give and the fun they have being around each other. By coming onto the High School Sports Radio Shows podcast we were able to hear what goes through a player’s mind from active players.
