Isn’t It Romantic Film Review

By Dj Malloy

The movie Isn’t It Romantic premiered in theatres on February 13th, 2019, just in time for Valentine’s Day weekend. The romantic comedy stars actors Rebel Wilson and Liam Hemsworth, who are popular for their roles in films such as Pitch Perfect and The Hunger Games, respectively.

The following is a synopsis of the film:

“Natalie is a New York architect who works hard to get noticed at her job, but is more likely to deliver coffee and bagels than design the city’s next skyscraper. Things go from bad to weird when she gets knocked unconscious during a subway mugging and magically wakes up to find herself in an alternate universe. Always cynical about love, Natalie’s worst nightmare soon comes true when she suddenly discovers that she’s playing the leading lady in a real-life romantic comedy.”

Isn’t It Romantic Movie Trailer

After seeing the movie, I can personally say that it was a worthwhile watch. The way the director and writers integrated the old-school romantic, Pretty Woman-esque, comedy was one of the best aspects of the film. In the film they have the main two characters kiss in the rain. which is quintessential romantic comedy. The backstory of the main character is that she loved the movie pretty woman, but her mom said that no man would ever want to be her Richard Gere. These are references to classic romantic comedies, which this movie both admires and slightly satirizes. It is definitely the movie for you if you’re a movie-goer that appreciates new twist on old-school classics, with a comedic flair. Although the manner in which Rebel Wilson’s character entered her “romantic comedy universe” was a slightly confusing, and the central conflict could have been developed a bit more, the film itself was overall a good popcorn flick.
