Since school has opened back up and we are no longer required to attend virtually, all sorts of clubs have been springing up here at Rush. One club in particular managed to start during virtual learning and has thrived since. Rush’s very own Paranormal Club (originally titled Ghost Club). The club is hosted by Mr. Fletcher. Currently, it is being run by leader Keiniya Smith and co-leader Lola Geiss who are assisted by secretary Grace Fetsick. But, it wasn’t always this way. Despite many changes, the Paranormal Club’s mission has always been the same. The club’s mission is to learn about paranormal beliefs and theories and discuss them in a safe space. This includes things like spirituality, cryptids, and anything considered strange or unusual!
Originally started by Olivia Varona, this club has been as welcoming as a welcome mat outside your door. When asked how she founded the club, Varona said, “I was on a call with my friend, and we were talking about the clubs we should join and I saw that there was a Spirit Club. I went to check it out, and it was a school spirit club. So, at 1:00 in the morning I wrote down a bunch of ideas and emailed the person in charge of the clubs. That’s how I made Ghost Club.”
Lola Geiss is the club’s co-leader. She says the club is a wonderful place to be and new members are always encouraged to join. “I find the club very enjoyable. I like to think it is a very welcoming space because all are welcome. I can’t wait to see where things go with it as we progress through the year.”
Keiniya Smith is the current leader of the Paranormal Club. Smith said “I’m not the best at speaking with a group of people, but it’s a bit easier to do in Paranormal Club! The group is interested in what the club’s about, and I like the ideas that pop up. We are always open to questions and suggestions!”
The club promises a safe environment open to anybody as long as they agree to stay on topic. Like Lola said, new members are always welcome! Consider joining the Paranormal Club! They meet on Tuesdays after school in Mr. Fletcher’s room (248). We encourage you to come and take part in learning about the paranormal in our world. You never know what you might find out!
