Are you a Certified Lover Boy?

“Donda or Certified Lover Boy?” We all probably have been asked this question before. But why are people comparing two completely different albums by artists who seem nothing alike? The truth is, fanbases of rappers Kanye ‘Ye’ West and Drake pit the albums against each other due to the rappers “beef” with each other. How did this beef start? Well, on West’s 2010 album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, Drake was supposedly cut off the song “All of the Lights.” It’s suspected this happened because of the songs already long length and having two features, Rihanna and Fergie.

Despite having collaborated on multiple songs together in the years after, the beef was made more apparent by fans who continuously antagonized the artists, asking them about each other. Fans agree Kanye made the bigger move against Drake, buying a beat Drake was interested in for over $1,000,000. He then used the beat for the most absurd lyrics, such as “Poopy-di scoop. Scoop-diddy-whoop,” wasting the beat Drake planned on using.

The beef really heated up in 2021 when Kanye’s long awaited album “Donda” album was rumored to be released. On brand for Kanye, the album was delayed for weeks until “Certified Lover Boy”, Drake’s upcoming album at the time, was confirmed to be released. Kanye decided to drop his album just days before Drake’s. The fans went crazy comparing the two projects and pitting them against each other to see which one would get the most streams. Neither of the artists publicly commented on the album debate but we can only imagine what was going on behind the scenes.

That was until Kanye, doing what he does best, took to social media to leak the Canadian rapper’s address. He posted a screenshot of the apple-maps location of Drake’s $100,000,000 house for everyone to see. Throughout this time, disses were dropped in their songs, insinuating the worst of them both.

When asked their feelings about the ongoing conflict, sophomore and rap fan Lola Geiss stated, “Although I’m a Kanye fan, I feel the beef was unnecessary. Their friendship created the best music!” Lola speaks for the general population who don’t understand the cause of their feud. The fans want the two to remain friends, finding their fight pointless.

On a more positive note, the beef is speculated to be over as of November 16th, 2021. Ye took to Instagram to post a picture of him and Drake, also going to a dinner afterwards. Speculators believe this beef was a publicity stunt done by the two in order to gain promotion for their new albums, even though the feud has been going on for longer than the albums creations. Another point made was the concert they both held for the Free Larry Hoover fund in favor of this theory. Concert tickets were priced at over $1,000, fans from all over the world came to see the two icons perform. Kanye and Drake sang each other’s songs, sharing the stage once again.

The real question is, Is there beef officially squashed? Kanye has been known to do crazy things, time can only tell where their relationship is going. We can be grateful for that as of now they are on good terms.
