- Donate Clothes. Have any clothes that no longer fit or are no longer your style? Re-purpose them by donating them, rather than throwing them out and creating more waste.
- Clean up your community. On your commute home or outside of your school pick up trash you may see. There are organizations you can volunteer for to clean litter and other things that aren’t supposed to be there. You can even start with yourself, friends, and family. If you find you or someone you know littering don’t be afraid to speak up or check yourself and find a trash can. Trash in our streets isn’t neat.
- Conserve water! Try to limit your use of water, don’t leave your tap running and try to shorten shower times.
- Educate yourself. Learning about our Earth and the wonders of nature can not only be fascinating but motivate you to take action when you see the effects of climate change going on.
- Limit your use of electricity. Unplug lights you are not using, your T.V, and your devices. Only have your devices plugged in using electricity when you need to use them rather than have them plugged in all day. - Plant a tree. This creates cleaner air and makes the community look nicer.
- Go plastic bottle free. Can be for a short amount of time to reduce the amount of plastic in landfills. Reusable water bottles are fairly accessible and can even be found at thrift stores to save more money.
- Ride a bike/skateboard or walk more to reduce carbon emissions.
- Use reusable shopping bags, less plastic is wasted for one time use.
- Buy less fast fashion, fast fashion is one of the highest contributors to carbon emissions as well as plastic waste. This includes brands like SHEIN and Forever 21.
- Start a garden! You can get seeds online or in grocery stores. You could grow your garden outside if you have a front or backyard
- Compost any food waste. Don’t just throw out those leftovers! Some people put food waste into containers and once they are full, it can be used for their gardens as mulch or as a soil amendment (which boosts the physical proper
- Use both sides of the paper. This one is simple, but effective. Paper waste is a huge mess! Pulp and paper is the 3rd largest industrial polluter of air, water and soil.
- Cut the plastic rings on soda cans before you throw them out. Six pack rings, which are commonly used for packaging soda, are one of the oceans biggest killers. Many penguins and other birds near the ocean choke on these rings. This can be stopped by cutting up the rings before tossing them out.
- Don’t limit these actions to Earth Day! You can help your environment every day if you are able. It’s nice to treat the Earth, but doing it for one day a year won’t help much!
